SAT topics and concepts

The College Board defines which areas of math are represented on the SAT. The math portion of the test is designed to prove your math ability across several topics with real-world applications. In general, samples of everything a student has learned in late middle school through the end of high school will appear on the SAT.

Recalling a wide range of math skills requires dedicated SAT study time and a specialized tutor that can organize an effective study plan.

Examples of SAT math topics and concepts include:

  • Algebra: linear equations and functions, polynomials, radicals, how to use a graphing calculator

  • Advanced math: absolute value, nonlinear equations

  • Problem-Solving & Data Analysis: ratios, data interpretation, probability, statistics

  • Geometry & Trigonometry: lines and angles, area and volume

“Ellie has been absolutely fantastic as a math tutor for my two sons. She is very personable and she is able to explain math problems (and the reasoning) in a way that registers with both of my kids.”
